SLB

SLB are the largest energy and technology contractor in the world, they were founded in 1926 and are they are listed on the New York and London Stock Exchanges.

A World-Wide Transformation Project

Starting in 2022, SLB began a massive ERP transformation project to overhaul Global HR , Project Management and Procurement. The new ways of working had to be communicated to 110,000 staff worldwide. Bringing everyone along the journey significantly helped take-up, removed resistance and improved operations to set a new standard in the industry.

The Issue

SLB has long recognised the strategic value of data, leveraging it across finance, human resources, and complex project management. To unlock the full potential of its vast data resources, the company embarked on a journey to consolidate all its data into a centralised data lake, enabling advanced analytics and improved business performance.

However, a complex landscape of legacy Enterprise Resource Management (ERM) systems hindered this vision. To streamline operations, enhance data security, and drive AI-powered insights, SLB initiated a consolidation project to unify these systems onto a single, cloud-based, data-lake-driven platform.

With robust in-house IT capabilities, SLB possessed the technical expertise to execute this ambitious undertaking. However, recognising the critical role of people in successful change programme, the company adopted a holistic 'Technical & People' approach. This strategy aimed to develop employee engagement, minimise resistance, and maximsze adoption, ultimately ensuring the new platform delivers its full benefits.

Despite being an engineering firm, SLB boasts an impressive technological legacy. Not only was SLB.com one of the earliest registered domain names (claiming the 50th spot in 1987), but an SLB employee went on to found Cisco Systems.

The Approach

To effectively communicate and engage stakeholders throughout the change program, we developed a comprehensive strategy encompassing various channels, including video and PowerPoint presentations. Collaborating closely with key stakeholders, we ensured the strategy aligned with project goals and audience needs.

Once the rollout plan was finalised, we partnered with cross-functional teams across SLB to create engaging video content. Through a streamlined process involving script development, green screen filming, and post-production, we delivered high-quality videos, each one within a rapid 14-day turnaround. This collaborative approach and efficient workflow were instrumental in maintaining momentum and fostering a shared sense of purpose among stakeholders.

The Outcome

The effectiveness of our communication materials was evaluated through key metrics including new system login rates, helpdesk ticket volume, and feedback from the established Champions Network during the critical cutover period. A surge in logins accompanied by minimal helpdesk inquiries demonstrated the success of our engagement strategy. Overwhelmingly positive feedback from the Champions Network reinforced these findings.

SLB now benefits from a powerful, AI-enhanced integrated platform but we also ensured that we left behind a robust Champions Network, providing ongoing support and resources to employees. Equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge, staff can confidently navigate the new system. The network also plays a vital role in further developing employee engagement, solidifying SLB's commitment to exceptional support.
